I saw that as well. Thanks for the pointer. On the form 129 Part 2, Question 4 it asks for prior receipt number. Would the current receipt number and the old I 94 suffice? I dont see her H1 being approved ahead of her H4 as there will be a deluge of applications on Apr 1st.

VOTES. That's what these politicians are after.
What is 0.5 million against 12 million? In addition, this is pandering to Hispanics who have a huge representation in this country. They don't have a sense of Legal Vs Illegal. Even if it's an illegal hispanic, the legal hispanics will support him because most hispanics have a distorted feeling that somehow they're 'entitled' to be here and the laws don't apply to them. I am not denigrating them but I have read about what they feel (from non-partisan blogs and articles) and it's scary what their agenda is. It's sad but that's what the reality is.
We 'legal' immigrants are here to work hard and contribute but I'm sure we don't have any 'hidden' agenda of changing the cultural fabric of this country. These people do and we should be concerned about it too if we plan to live here for a long time. There might soon be a day when 'English' will disappear and be replaced by 'Spanish'. They have done it in a lot of places in the border states.

Democrats want to win Presidential election and increase their numbers in congress based on Iraq and Immigration. They are thinking that if CIR is passed they can project that it is Democratic congress which passed CIR. If they fail they will blame that Republicans voted against and they will make this as election issue. They are thinking in that way. But it will not work. People are against big immigration numbers but they will not oppose moderate immigration increase. But American people are divided when it comes to illegal immigration. If any other issue is burning then immigration will become non issue and democrats will not get any extra votes because of CIR. But liberal immigration is not good for Labor unions(we know democrats are pro-labor also) so that may work against Democrats. Right now it is not sure whether parties are really dedicated to pass CIR or Just for making immigration alive to get political mileage.
We all come to this site and give our interpretation of the situation, but the whole situation is so funny isnt it.
A writes something then b responds, c comes in an says something but the finally nothing is achieved.
The congressmen do what they want, our effort of conversation is useless.
We should come together and raise our voice somewhere were it can be heard.
I dont think by sending emails to these congressmen about our situation will be that effective, most of them dont know or dont care. We should come out onto the constitution ave in DC and let our voice be heard by the masses, then the media will know, the common man will know, the companies will know, the congressmen will know, this will also help the lobbyists to fight for our reforms who benefit more than us.
I joined recently but I am sorry to say that by donations from people, a few people IV core cannot lobby our issues. There are lot of us who are suffering, even 200 people on washington ave will effect. Slowly more will join,
I hope

Isn't the UK issue different.
They are trying to change rules retroactively. There is no such thing going on here.
A similar stance would be if in midstream: lawmakers changed retroactively that only if the job makes more then $150,000 it is qualified for EB2; only companies with revenues of over $20 million can apply for greencards. If they changed the rules retroactively in USA which would preclude people who are already in line; then you would see massive amounts of protests.
However; what is happening in UK is not the same issue here. Same thing happened in Canada a few years ago when they changed the point system and wanted to do it for people retroactively.
Here, with retrogression in the background, a lot of mess is being cleaned up and a lot of enforcements are coming in place to curb visa abuse. It is quite interesting to see how enforcements are being done and how things will be handled because on one side job market is booming, on one side you find big and small consulting doing alll sorts of things and utilising visas, on one side you see locals (Especially older people who lost jobs and find it diffucult to find jobs because of their age). Overall, it wwould bee interesting to see what will the course of action be.
From what I understand, Retrogression is the only "retroactive measure using diplomacy" and I guess thats it. Stricter enforcements will be there but those who manage to get past, will always get past.
IVs strategists must look into a diplomatic angle to come up with mechanisms to fight retro which I think IV is currently doing and is on the track.

I have been at many occasions when the national anthem was sung. At each occasion, as soon as the song was sung, everybody in the crowd sang along out loud. So I expected the crowd in this rally to sing along as well. But it was all silence. I felt really embarrassed.

hi Pdnov2005,
i was talking bout pdfs in the begining of this thread that talked bout some congressional documents requesting higher H1 quotas for fiscal yr 2008 and 2009
:) infact if quota is increased and duplicates eliminated, it ensures complete usage of the new quota (if any )

You have not mentioned whether your I-140 is still pending.
If your I-140 was approved already, then you can use AC21 portability.
If both your I-140 & I-485 are pending and if you plan to use AC21, USCIS will process your GC as per the following guidelines contained in yates memo.
http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/AC21Intrm122705.pdf
The above memo is relevant to I-140 pending situation.
My I-140 is approved.

Thanks for the link. I looked at it before I posted my case but I don't think it was a mistake by the customs officer. He specifically told me that he cannot stamp the date of the future I-797's expiry date (Jun 2010) and asked me to contact my local office just before the current visa expires. My current one expires June 04 2007. The future 797 is valid from June 05 2007 till June 04 2010. But my visa stamping in the passport is till June 04 2010.

Any number lesser than 800,000 is good for us.. doesnt mean all is well.. we have to continue in our efforts with IV and we could have a better breakthrough..
Anything less than 800,000 is good... even a few hundred thousand less :) There's still a lot of work and patience required but a good news is a good news nevertheless.

does anyone have the bill number that was passed by clinton to recapture visas from previous years. i wanted to know who the sponsors for the bill were. if its was a simple bill maybe the state chapters can talk to their congresspeople about passing something similar in the interim. it will reduce the waiting time for everybody and it is certainly non controversial...just thinking aloud.

There were about 600,000 AOS applications including the July and August filers. So that number less 60,000...roughly about 540,000 applications still pending with USCIS....
applications pending before July/Aug applications, why did they make all CURRENT? I don't think this number is correct. They maybe stuck in FBI Namecheck.

Not sure if people have noticed but in the new processing tmeframe - TSC shows EAD as being processed as of March 02.
For those who applied for EAD in recent weeks or months, this may become a serious issue if EAD does not come in time.
I applied for EAD in June 9th and still waiting.

He's not my lawyer. I just hear of him out here in the various posts.
As for the things you ask below - why should he do any of the things you ask for - its none of his business. Or actually, its none of our business to tell him how to conduct his business.
Don't want to get into a mudslinging fest here - just wanted to point out that sometimes posts like the original one are useful.
You can do hero worship of your lawyer whoever it is. I will not.
Ask him/her if he will do advocacy effort for you or sue USCIS since all his clients are struggling in the long wait and spending a lot of money on immigration consultations, fees etc.
Ask him if he contribute to IV instead?
Ask him to give you priority instead of your employer who gives him business every year.
