I think the default block size on your HDD will be 4 KB.
The default allocation block size in Mac OS X is 4KiB. Don't make it smaller.
Ahh I see. So the minimum size that any file in OS X can be is 4 KiB (4*2^10 bytes) regardless of how little data it contains?

Apple apps are not the only ones that won't update if not directly in the Applications Folder. What's the issue with "overcrowding"? How many are too many?

apparently with the update to Safari 1.2, they've fixed the bug with the links, so if you were having problems like I was, with links staying open instead of closing after accessing the iTMS, it should work after updating. That is to say, however, that if you're like one of my other computers, stuck on 10.2.8, it's still busted. Oh well - just thought I'd pass along that they work (for some of us, at least)

Probably need to use sudo texteditor to open the file.
For web testing only, you are better off with MAMP.

I would like to be able to offer free downloads of an iPhone app to a select group of users (for instance, people who have stayed at a particular hotel), but charge the general public for the app.
Apple limits you to 50 promotional codes per version of an app. The target audience I have in mind is quite a bit larger.
Can anyone think of a work-around?
Have you spoken directly with Apple? I don't know how many promotional codes you're in need of, but they may work with you.

Downgrades are not possible normally. The only way to downgrade is to restore to the base version of the OS you wish to downgrade to (or whatever came with your Mac if you haven't upgraded since you bought it), then update to the desired minor version of that OS. Keep in mind that you can't downgrade to anything older than what your Mac came with.
I'd try Sun Baked's suggestions before mine, though.

Depends if it's a server side dependancy, that you be running a version after a specific build (which could be after PPC support was removed).

Well first off, I don't think there has been much of a performance difference from the i5 and i7 on the 13". There is some definite gain going from the 13" to the 15" though. So if you were considering the 13" I would urge to go the i5 route. You could save that money for a SSD or RAM or something like that.
What about screen size? Have you used a 13" or a 15" screen? Some people find that the 13" is just too small...so maybe a 15" with HiRes or something for you if that's the case.
Hopefully I'm not confusing you even more as to what to get.
Thanks for the response!
I went into the Apple store yesterday and had a look, unfortunately the only applications available were like Safari and itunes. Which seems fine, but for programming/photoshop, I'm not sure it may be large enough. I probably won't be doing as much heavy activity on the go, but I just don't want it to bottleneck/crash any intense applications since it's a dual core.
Thanks,
- Toimia

This answers all your questions. How the next mba 2011 edition will perform, is however unknown:

You need to use either a router or ethernet switch to connect them both on one network, and then go into system preferences and enable DVD or CD Sharing in the Sharing prefpane.
Shy of a router or ethernet switch you might be able to do something with a VPN, but even IF you could it would be painfully slow.

So we were cleaning out the attic today, and we found some of our old computers. We found:
Macintosh Powerbook 145 - circa 1992 - still works fine, b&w screen, flight simulator, the works
Macintosh Performa 6115CD - circa 1994 - it may work, i'm not sure... but the specs on the box are hilarious
Not pictured, we found an iMac G3, the slot-loading 700mhz version, that doesnt work

If you ever want to check, use this link:
http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/forums.macrumors.com
The only issue I found with that is that if the servers are up, but not delivering data, it will pass. By the way, he can't load www.macrumors.com (forums works).

I dunno - the Classic doesn't have vents at the top, right? I know it's pretty easy to overheat a Plus by blocking the top vents, so I'd imagine you might run into trouble with a Classic if you yank the fan.
Then again, a Classic isn't super collectible, so if you give it a try and bolo the machine, you could always just get another one. :)

No, I mean within the library. I can't drag one song under the other under Music in the library. It works on Purchased and all the other playlists, but the Music section in the library won't let me drag songs where I want them in the Music section. When I try to drag one song under the other or vice versa, it doesn't work...
The only difference between the playlists that allow me to drag and drop and the Music section is that the Music section does not have a track number on the left side. On the playlists like Purchased, there are track numbers on the left, and selecting the track numbers section is the only way I can drag them in playlists.

That's great. I don't have a network cable and I believe the Firewire is cheaper. Will give it a go tomorrow. Thanks much for the clarification!

So I'm assuming you can't just install the newest one then give them the disks that would allow them to install iLife? Or you could just not install iLife... seems like that would make your life a lot easier; it isn't that expensive either so they wouldnt' really be missing out on something... and I don't think the inclusion nor retention of iLife would sway a person either way :)
